Personal Learning Map

Design for a future database/wiki/device/app hybrid:
  • A resource database started from Bureau of Labor Statistics information about U.S. careers but expanded to include pathways between skill sets, ways to acquire skill sets, and crowd-sourced evaluations of points of connection
  • A wiki that allows constant upgrading of the database content, especially in terms of extracting viable learning pathways for Students
  • A device that holds one's Life Portfolio, with links to the wiki/database
  • A device app that seamlessly allows user input, reporting from queries, communication with Guides, Pathfinders, Mavens and Mentors, scenario brainstorming, and access to all available online content to aid learning
The device will be compact enough to be always available - I'm thinking tablet here - and capable enough to handle everything we'll throw at it over the course of a lifetime. A cloud reading device makes the most sense for such a device where a person's data is stored in the cloud and accessed with the device anytime, anywhere. In fact, a reverse benefit could come from this as non-personal data is mined and aggregated from these cloud servers by entities like the BLS, making statistical collections more precise.
